Hi! 👋
My name is Marga and I’m new on, just moved here from, so it’s time for an . I’m interested in:

(don’t know a lot about it yet)

(but only if they’re nice)

Not necessarily in that order, and it’s probably also not a complete list.

Thanks to the people for hosting my new account!☀️🏡

@GeekAndDad I preferred a smaller, more specific instance, am interested in the solar punk movement, and some friends are already on, so moving to that instance felt logical

@whakkee I guess this changes your home feed? Prunes it down.

I don’t even know what solar punk movement is so I’ll have to go look

@GeekAndDad it also changes my home feed, yes - what I like about Mastodon is how it's decentralized. That feeling is stronger with a smaller instance.

@whakkee it’s a little awkward (but maybe that’s just the clients not being there yet) because what if you want to be part of multiple groups / communities? Want one client but maybe combined notifications? But auto posting back to source group of replying and easy navigation to either see a customizable combined view with subset of groups you’re part of or just a single group etc.

@GeekAndDad most apps support multiple accounts. That, or just following people of interest in other communities is the most common solution here, I think?

@GeekAndDad you can still follow people from various instances, there's still hashtags too. My current iOS client allows me to have multiple accounts, so also notifications from multiple accounts. (I only use one though)

@whakkee which client? Ameroq allows multiple accounts but only one seems to be active at a time.

@GeekAndDad I have Amaroq, and in the settings screen you can switch. I believe there are more clients that do multiple accounts. I’m not sure if Amaroq does notifications for both at the same time, but worst case I could just use two different clients for that if I wanted to. I don’t though, in the past I spent a lot of time on social media, and I prefer to do more offline things now.

@GeekAndDad @whakkee was asked several times to close registrations, and people have been encouraged to migrate from M.S. to spread over other instances. It is good to have a flagship instance where the latest stable software runs, maintained by the lead software developer, but better decentralize equally :)

@whakkee Helloooo Marga! Welcome to SBC! 😀
If you're interested in joining the co-operative, 👉 👉

Otherwise, have fun! It looks like you'll fit right in. 😄

@puffinus_puffinus I'll check it out, may be a while as I'm not super fast with these kinda things - thanks! :sun: 😃

@whakkee Hey, no pressure. It's just that often new members of the instance aren't aware we're co-operatively run and that they can get a say in things if they wish. It can take up as much or as little of your time as you wish.

@puffinus_puffinus thanks, yes - I am aware, I did read up a bit before choosing a new instance. felt too big, and generic, and I was looking for something more fitting. I'm certainly considering joining the co-op! 🙂

@whakkee That's good. Yes m.s is pretty massive now. I feel we're more focused around solarpunk themes and generally stay (roughly!) on topic.

@whakkee welcome :D if you want to read more about solarpunk n what we're doing here we've got our own wiki check out the politics page too for a lil background

@scottishwobbly hah, thank you! @puffinus_puffinus just sent me the same link, so now I _really_ have to go do some homework and read it all 😆 :sun:

@lychee nope, from the Netherlands - you may notice that my English is not perfect, but writing in Dutch would mean even less people understand what I’m saying 😊

@lychee yes, that’s one of the good things about it 😊

@whakkee welcome to fediverse once more with your new account. I'm not inhabitant, though, but nevertheless I'm glad to see nice people around too. ;)
