@rachel0964 Hebrew שוק, "souq" in Arabic and similar words in a variety of West Asian/North African/Southern European languages.
A bazaar/marketplace of individual stalls, forming corridors and alleys and (in my limited experience) selling a wide variety of different things, often food but also jewelry, clothing, pottery, etc.
