At the leather workshop i learnt how to lock the thread on a needle. And its been super useful for hand sewing when the needle falls of the thread
The basic technique is to:
Thread the needle like normal
Pierce the short end of the thread with the tip of the needle
Pull it down the needle and lock it in place

@sunflower_avenue We do it a different way. Double up the thread, knot the ends together. Take the looped end, thread through the needle, and tie a slip knot with it around the needle. Stays on the needle, and then comes off pretty easily once you cut the thread.
