Notre-Dame Cathedral is one of those places on all the tourists' must-see lists. But it feels like a lot of them are so busy trying to see the place that they don't actually *see* the place.

The main doors are covered in this beautiful ironwork, with flowers and swirling botanical motifs. I think it's beautiful. But most people just rush in and rush out without even pausing to look at it.

Wherever you go, remember to keep your eyes open. There's always so much to see everywhere, even where others see nothing.

Some of the beautifully intricate ironwork on the Cathedral doors. It's remarkably detailed and obviously finely crafted. These iron flowers, leaves, and stems apparently date back to the 1300s, but the style really reminds me of motifs used during the Art Nouveau movement. I have to wonder how much they served as inspiration for late 19th century artists.

Honestly, the whole place is a work of art. Or it was. And it likely shall be again.

One of the centuries old rose windows of Notre Dame cathedral, illuminated by the evening sunlight. The lights inside are hazy in the air, thick with incense. The choir were singing as I took this picture, and the acoustics inside this place were astonishing.
