So many people go on social media and spend all their time talking about the things they hate. Then they say that they find social media depressing and exhausting.

Doesnโ€™t matter if itโ€™s this place or twitter or somewhere else โ€“ If you only ever talk about things you find terrible, itโ€™ll wear you down. Detox your thoughts. Tell us all about something you love! ๐Ÿ’š

I should add, Iโ€™m not saying to never complain about things, and Iโ€™m not preaching toxic positivity. Sometimes you just need to vent, and thatโ€™s ok. Weโ€™ve all been there.

Just try not to make that the only thing you do. Eat your meal, then wash your plate.

@InvaderXan I guilty of doing this. I am kinda good at writing rants or just "we must fight" things and people react to them a lot and, well, that's addictive.

Easily done. Weโ€™ve all done the same. Interactions give your brain a dopamine boost. More interactions, mean more dopamine, and thatโ€™s very literally addictive. Which is why this whole social media thing happened, I guess.

@InvaderXan well, yeah, obviously.
I've just finished a book which mentions this a lot, "An Absolutely Remarkable Thing"

Hmm, I havenโ€™t heard of that one. It sounds interesting though!

I had to move spots at work yesterday because the guy next to me would not stop complaining. Like you can usually tell when they just enjoy complaining when they retell the same complaint over and over. Venting is like this is going on in my life and usually they fizzle or relax after they are done. Just something I noticed.

Iโ€™ve known a few people like this. Itโ€™s like complaining is the only kind of interaction they can consistently do. Itโ€™s kinda sad, really. ๐Ÿ˜•

I tried to steer the conversation to something else but he was just head strong on making sure I was in a bad mood with him I'm like no I can't deal with that

Oh gods, I know just what you mean. I used to work with someone who was similarly draining. The kind of person who makes you regret asking how they are because theyโ€™ll answer with a Shakespearian monologue about why everything is terrible!

"how you doing Jimmy?"

"Ode to my quaking essence, tis Dawn once more, yet night"

"...Okay! Take care."

@dee @InvaderXan If they raised their style to that level, I wouldn't mind it so much! ๐Ÿ˜„

Yeah, sometimes venting is needed, but it's a coping mechanism best not *relied* upon as it only helps in the short-term and makes anger and such worse in the long-term, plus if it's relied upon in many cases one will be venting to people who might not be able to deal with it but don't know how or don't feel safe to say so.

That's very true. It's all too easy to get carried away being angry about stuff. The next thing you know... basically Twitter.

@InvaderXan I will never understand that, I think it's fine to complain about things we don't like, but if one hates social media then they should also not use social media.

I just feel like a lot of people end up hating it because they fill their screens and their brains with all the things they hate. And why would you like something if all it does is make you think of terrible things?
