"Anybody who ever lighted a fire without matches has probably gained some proper respect for "low" or "primitive" or "simple" technologies"

It's true. I remember building my first bow-drill and spinning up an ember to blow to flame in a nest of tinder. And the bow, spindle, fireboard, handhold, and tinder bundle all need to be designed just so. Making fire *IS NO SMALL THING*!

trans voice study notes

Morning voice practice went well ^____^

Learned a *lot* about pitch. Blows my mind that successive piano notes are "just" 49 Hz multiplied by the twelfth root of 2 raised to the power of N, where N is the Nth note after the first pitch.

Studied some voice actors I really like, also. Very bummed that some of the voices I really love are outside of my pitch range for chest voice. I think I had this assumption that my voice could theoretically do whatever other humans' voices could do.

*But*! I found a voice actor whose pitch is within my range, and I'm super duper excited to study their voice more!

Yay, I wrote an article. ^___^

It's about how I've been doing simul-casting media with friends. πŸ“Ί

It doesn't seem to be open source though, which is a bummer.

If you want to simulcast a video with friends, potato.land is a handy little web app.

I adore this poem -- it's been a bit of a guiding light 🌟 for me. It's been pinned to my browser tabs for weeks, and when I feel down I pick a stanza to read.

Wanting to write more articles and HOWTOs. Trying to bust out of this habit of assuming a) everyone knows what I know already, b) my interests are too obscure for anyone to be interested.

Lateral Thinking with Withered Technology

"In the handheld market, Yokoi's refusal to adopt a color display for the Game Boy in favor of long battery life is cited as the main reason it prevailed against Sega's Game Gear and Atari's Lynx."

Seeking recommendations for an e-ink book reader device with minimal lockdown & proprietary crap.

Ideally that can be easily found used.

I've been really wanting to spend some experimental time in a desert area. I think they're really beautiful & alive in their own way.

Containers are such an essential technology: try going a day without using any!

Sometimes I get surprised when I don't get much of a response to toots that *I* think are "a big deal". I wonder if it's just different values?

To me, the ability to create containers using natural local materials is ____so frickin cool___! It's empowering, a creativity opportunity, and creates useful things without producing non-biodegradable waste!

Baskets are remarkably badass.

It's a quiet, foggy morning here where I am in BC. Enjoying the quiet, sipping coffee, and reading a book. 🌫️

A proposal, dear reader: Create a list of bookmarks linking to websites you find interesting, and publish it for the world to see. It's a bit strange, almost nobody seems to be doing this. Looking through a sample of personal websites, very few of them has links to other personal websites. A hyperlink isn't a marriage proposal. It is enough to find some redeeming quality in a website to link to it.
