Hey! just checking into sunbeam and letting all you beautiful people know that earth strike international has a mastodon page again @earthstrike
and we are less than a month away from the #GeneralStrike on Sept 27th (or Sept 20th if you are in the UK)
Godddd stop spreading the propaganda that entry-level retail workers are punished for other people's shoplifting. They aren't! I've worked retail for 4 years at 5 different places (Walgreens, Target - at 2 locations, Sam's, and 2 local places) and have never heard of this happening. Shrinkage is considered part of expenses, entry-level employees aren't expected to stop shoplifting (and are more often explicitly told not to), and this is definitely against company policy at any big chain
I'm sure it does happen under the table or at small businesses, but people talk about it like it's guaranteed every time you nick a drink. It's fucking not, and by saying this every single time someone talks about theft you're doing exactly what the capitalists - including the ones who enact this policy - want. They're holding workers hostage and you're giving in to their demands
Boosts appreciated
Congrats to everyone who participated in and organized #earthstrike events yesterday. You da real MVPs 💚❤️🖤💚
"Do your part" energy conservation plans, like turning lights off when you leave the room, are great for your energy bill, but their job as part of "lowering carbon footprints" is to deflect from the big corporations that actually use the vast majority of the power.
For example, the average US stand-alone home uses ~11,000 kWh per year.
The VERY MOST EFFICIENT roadside LED billboard uses ~61,000 kWh per year. That number rises to ~323,000 kWh at the top end.
Amina Mama; the approach to women's liberation
Liberal approaches, including conventional approaches to women's rights', can never be adequate to the tasks of decolonization, decentralization, or socialism (the pursuit of social justice) in places that have a history of gross injustice. Women's liberation cannot be attained in isolation, and the myth that it can is divisive.
Amina Mama; solidarity and connections
Building solidarity is primarily a task of conscientization. We have to be constantly in a process of becoming alert to the things that divide and oppress us in specifically historical ways, if we are to strengthen an alternative political culture, one that is premised on different kinds of relationships. It is about how we connect.

@MoreHuman https://hackmd.io/s/Skh_dXNbE# maybe something helpful here
I think that there needs to be so much better education about mental health in school tbh, if it weren't for the internet I would have never learned what I do about my friends, myself, and my family. they straight up didn't teach us about depression or anxiety or autism or OCD in any classes, including health class. The closest we ever got to even talking about subjects pertaining to mental health was the anti bullying movie we watched at the end of the year.
Energy Generation Links
A few articles/ ideas for small scale homemade electric generators I've found. Any suggestions and additions are certainly welcome.
