@socalledunitedstates I think the idea of left-unity as a value presiding over others is an historical mistake we need to learn from. Particularly in the UK there are "socialist" parties with little or no interest in workers' democracies or cooperatives, believing instead in bourgeois parliamentary power, and who have actively stood in the way of every grassroots workers' uprising. Look to France in 1968, as the anarchists looked to the trade unions and communist parties - and for what?
Much more useful would be the idea of worker unity and organisation between different grassroots, direct-democracy groups. Let the bureaucratic hangover of the last century die, in its place the workers can better organise themselves.
one think i'd like to clarify is that worker unity absolutely includes unity with fellow wage-slaves regardless of their politics (excluding fascism) but left unity, to me at least, suggests unwavering unity between organisations (rather than individuals)
Fascists are starting to appropriate soc dem talking points, which is a problem because
a) As the overton window shifts to the left, the right seems like a more moderate option (at least to people who are cool with xenophobia and racism (which is a lot of people in America))
b) Fascists don't actually want social democracy, they want social democracy *for white people*

Inside 'cult-like' Facebook, where employees only pretend to be happy all the time
'...Several former employees likened the culture to a “cult.” [....] mployees don’t complain in the workplace.
“There’s a real culture of ‘Even if you are f---ing miserable, you need to act like you love this place,’” said one ex-employee who left in October. “It is not OK to act like this is not the best place to work.”
[....] “You have invisible charges against you, and that figures mightily into your review,” said an employee who left in October. “Your negative feedback can haunt you for all your days at Facebook.”...'
I make jokes about guillotines and the like all the time, but I'm actually not interested in the aesthetics of violence. I am by no means a pacifist, but eating the rich is a necessary evil. Too many revolutionaries get caught fetishisting revolution to the point where the revolution itself becomes the end point.
When that's the case, any revolutionary movement exists only as an inverse of the status quo, and then its existence is actually contingent *on* the status quo, because it acquires a status as being SQs "inverse." Worse still, should the status quo ever fall, the alternative will simply emulate the status quo, because its limitations as the "inverse" are defined by the limitations of the former status quo. In other words, it adapts the exact heuristics and ways of thinking as its antagonist.
I'm more interested in constructing an alternative that transcends the present. Endless critique and destruction don't actually produce anything of substance.
