I think the fact that the majority of Shakespeare's plays were adaptations of pre-existing stories is a solid testament to the importance of the public domain and understanding culture and creativity cooperatively instead of competitively. so many fantastic examples of art are adaptations (particularly films) or strongly inspired by other pieces and to ignore this, to assert that absolute Originality is the only true form of creativity seems destructive and quite capitalist to me.
@chupacabra yeah, i just noticed they had their masto accounts listed too!
Not sure if they are common knowledge on here, but i just found Hundred Rabbits, https://100r.co/pages/about.html , who have some seriously cool off-the-grid material, and also very interesting software tools and games.
our babysitter today was like "ugh i broke my macbook charger cord and im really not looking forward to having to pay for a new one" so I grabbed my soldering iron and heatshrink tubing and taught her how to fix cords herself and packed up everything she'd need to do it at home later.
She did a few with me there to help, did awesome, and is super excited about fixing it on her own.
Does this count as #solarpunk ?
@Wewereseeds not sure if you know this, but default mastodon can already use full text search on your own and faved toots, but it's slightly involved to set up. Sb.c apparently hasn't set it up though
This was a nice video about general introduction to situation in Rojava and how they actually organize themselves: "What's Happening in ROJAVA and Why Should YOU Support it?" https://youtu.be/H1YMUkMHpyY
I was looking for #CreativeCommons #solarpunk #art and I found this awesome CC-BY-SA-NC piece by David Revoy: http://www.davidrevoy.com/article201/fantasy-landscape
(thanks to <CalimeroTeknik> for showing me that!)
occasionally, clicking through yet another half-arsed GDPR-mandated cookie management screen, i find myself thinking "the GDPR has buggered up the web"
then i catch myself.
no, it hasn't. the way companies have opted to respond to the GDPR is what's buggered up the web. they could have been nice and unobtrusive about it, but no, they decided that *every user in the EU* should suffer their protests at not being able to stow thousands of fragments of random shite on a whim all over their vict- sorry, users' computers.
@ohyran Here’s another interesting fact about this:
Space is under maritime law. According to the United Nations, piracy is defined as “any illegal acts of violence or *detention* [of a ship]”
They illegally detained the spaceship so..
They were technically the first space pirates.
@socalledunitedstates any thoughts on newpipe (other FOSS YouTube and other media player) vs skytube. I like how newpipe can play music on background and also has popup overlay player.

I'll probably rant about the intersection of free software, feminism, and solarpunk.
Sunbeam City is a Libertarian Socialist solarpunk instance. It is ran democratically by a cooperative of like-minded individuals.
