hi all! i'm new here. intro time :))))

i'm an industrial design student aiming to apply my education towards resilient and regenerative land management stuff. sometimes a furniture maker / mediocre luthier. i've been a touring guitarist/bassist/drummer, and i put out music under the name -muels. and i'm obsessed with trees!! currently working as an intern at nyc parks, putting together a methodology for engaging communities in tree species selections along major roads in harlem, LIC, and astoria. i'm into anthropology and ethnobotany, and looking to learn more about magic and other ways of knowing/seeing/being.

tree clothes!!

yall. you can make clothing from the inner bark (bast) of elm (genus ulmus) and linden trees (AKA lime or basswood, genus tilia). bronze age english did it and so did the ainu peoples of japan.

corsican chestnut communism!

From the 16th to the 18th century, the early capitalistic dynamics of colonizers could not accommodate the island’s communitarian “horto-pastoral” civilization in which money hardly existed, development of social relationships was more important than accumulation of commodities, and property was not a precondition to production but the result of human labor."

plant trees -> protect trees -> return power to the people

"Chestnut was considered a weapon in itself because it provided food during wartime and constituted a refuge for rebels; thus, uprooting the tree would weaken resistance against the new rulers."

woodlanders is a beautiful series of short films highlighting the ways people around the world live in reciprocal relationships with their forests. i like this one cuz i'm partial to chestnuts / akiva is a hero of mine. there are episodes on salish basketry, japanese forest therapy, english coppicing, and more! inspiring and good to fall asleep to
