Like, just normal, I mean? It ruled. Normal is good. Normal is perfectly fine and good. Normal would be great right now.

Begpost, god I'm sorry T_T, please help, boosts++

Yo uh we're like $400 short on the rent (let alone any other bills), nothing has bitten yet for work for any of us, and the state decided to jerk me around with unemployment. Again. Last time they did that, it took them 40 days to resolve it. Let's just say I'm not hopeful they're going to fix it anytime soon, especially with the holidays.

I've had everyone in the house apply for SNAP so we can eat.

I've asked for a hell of a lot from y'all. And I'm tired of asking. But we probably won't hear back from anyone about work until after Christmas at this point. In desperation we've been seeing if the family would help us, but the response is not what I would call promising.

If y'all could help us pay the rent that would be fantastic. I know how bad times are... =s

When I have work I'm going to give back to who needs it. You're all saints. <3

Much of the Amazon was planted and planned out by people. It took 4,500 years of soil building, careful plant selection and cultivation. Indigenous people did that. nature.com/articles/s41477-018

If science fiction/fantasy is not for you, it's not for you. But if you liked the idea but gave up on it because it was the province of straight white men, let me recommend you take another look: the Hugo and Nebula award candidates are full of amazing stuff like N. K. Jemisin's Stone Sky series, Yoon-Ha Lee's Machineries of Empire, Aliette de Bodard's The Tea Master and the Detective, and Naomi Novik's Spinning Silver.

organizing, infosec

It's also part of a broader concern I have with getting involved with nonprofits in general. They can be bizarrely tone deaf, like ACLU of VA volunteers sending out texts from unknown numbers asking for ID confirmation in the middle of a doxxing wave that occurred after the Unite the Right demonstration - the same demo that was allowed to proceed due to a permit fought for by the ACLU.

Or a near-stranger asking me to join a socialist Discord server shortly after I moved to Seattle "for organizing" as if there aren't entire websites devoted to leaks and alerts sent out about glaring security flaws that won't be patched out and can't be separated from the platform in any meaningful way. Like, I guess if you want to "organize" an in-person meeting to discuss anything sensitive, maybe...? But Discord being your go-to is still sketchy as hell.

Jan 4th National Day of Action, PSL, ANSWER Coalition, corruption

I already feel uneasy with anyone organizing on Facebook and I'm just now hearing about the corruption in PSL/ANSWER Coalition.

That's not to say they can't organize effectively or that the National Day of Action isn't worth participating in - just personal discomfort with orgs engaging in these kinds of self-serving antics.

The entirety of the United States is a war machine empire [uspol]

The United States is a war machine. The economy of the Untied States is oriented around war and propagating the empire. All of us, in the US, are cogs in this war machine. No matter how removed from the military you think your job is, it ultimately ties back into helping the war machine churn. Remember, every single paycheck, every single purchase, a cut is always paid in taxes the bulk of which goes towards the "defense" budget

Oh wow I didn't know this was a thing here for New Year's. Last time I encountered free public transit was in Paris y2k.

Web 1.0 was - ideologically - the most healthy model for the internet we have ever seen, as it was decentralized and far less constrained by the jaws of capitalism.

Web 1.0 was a glimpse into a sustainable, communal, anarchist internet that was promptly crushed by capitalism.

I was fired last week by Google for organizing. All I did was make a popup to share the labor notice Google has to share with its workers.

3 hours later mgmt came to my desk, took my phone/laptop, escorted me away. I never got to say goodbye.

here's the thing about incel recruitment propaganda, & its target audience who hasn't drunk the Kool-aid yet:

romantic loneliness is a normal part of human existence. it happens to most people and it starts and stops nearly at random.

absolute loneliness is not a normal part of human existence. being romantically lonely might SEEM like it's where the huge sucking hole in your soul comes from, but this is a sleight of hand perpetrated by romance marketing. the thing you KNOW is so painfully missing from your life is meaningful community, people working together to support the whole.

we need to change the world to make community support a norm, & that means ending the isolated hyperindividualist precarity of wage labor and landlordism under late capitalism. but in the meantime, for your own health, you need to get out and meet people — anybody. go on Meetup.com if that's what it takes. meet the nice matronly folk at your local knitting circle. get involved with a performance troupe.
