Sol Garden is a BIPOC focused #neurodivergent private forum!
It's meant for *all* neurodivergent folks, self diagnosis is 100% valid
It's very very low key and still very tiny
We do vet people (not your diagnosis) to keep our community safe, particularly our #BIPOC members. I 100% cannot tolerate white nonsense
Make a post using #SolGardenInvite and one of us will message you!
Took a .docx glossary the client gave me and pasted it right into the plaintext glossary of my #OmegaT project. A little cleanup using a macro and bam, it works for autocomplete without even needing to restart the app. I love OmegaT.
Self-care is telling LoK's awful attempt at political storytelling to go fuck itself and enjoying the beautiful action animations and sapphic goodness
Avatar: The Legend of Korra spoilers, LoK critical
@schratze It seems to me LoK as a show has extreme problems with resistance to established order. Maybe it has to do with the conservatism of the heroic genre in general. The way Republic City had become a fiefdom for the original crew's descendants and proteges was really interesting, but the show refused to take any kind of critical look at that. Similarly, killing the Avatar is an actually interesting idea and could have been explored more from different angles, but again the show completely refused to see the Avatar as anything but an absolute good and so the conflict became flat and simplistic. LoK was frustrating not so much because it was bad but because it raised issues that it refused to deal with in the depth they deserved.
So, hey, I'm a translator. And I'm pretty much *always* looking for more work.
I translate to and from Polish.
Not the most in-demand language in the English-speaking world, but if you need a translation done or know someone who does, hit me up.
I'm good at what I do, I have low rates, and I can work pretty damn fast if that's what you need.
I am also pretty versatile, I've translated everything from literature to marketing to technical stuff.
The #Binti trilogy by Nnedi Okorafor follows Binti, a young Himba woman who travels through space to Oomza University, the finest institute of learning in the galaxy. The journey she takes and the people she meets will change her and the world forever as she discovers her heritage and takes on an interstellar conflict that threatens her people. The backdrops, from distant planets to future Namibia, come alive with beauty, treachery, tragedy, and wonder.
Hey @elementary, I've been playing around with the Odin Beta and I've noticed that some GTK apps don't respect the dark style setting. Is there a central place where you track this sort of issues? I did a quick search on Github, but only found per-app issues.
Apart from that it's looking amazing, I'm very excited for the release!
When you write hashtags, remember to use CamelCase (where each word has a capital letter).
This makes it much easier for blind and partially-sighted people's screen reader apps to read the hashtag out loud, and makes your message much more accessible.
Nice little illustration of what it means to say “patriarchy is structural” in this Twitter thread. (It’s about getting a drunk teenage girl home safely. No threats; nothing bad happens):
Israel-Palestine conflict, Zionism & antisemitism
It is entirely possible to criticize and resist Israel's criminal actions toward Palestinians without saying it has no right to exist or putting it on par with settler-colonial states. To do so erases Jewish people's history in the region alongside Palestinians. It is possible for a state to commit horrendous crimes, as Israel's actions are, without its existence being illegitimate the way the so-called United States or Australia are.
As for "Zionist," most Jewish people I know are Zionists in the sense of believing Israel has a right to exist. All of them are critical of Israel's actions. Within Israel, Zionists are in solidarity with Palestinians on the ground, Zionists are protesting illegal government actions, and many, many Zionists are calling for Israel and Palestine to exist peacefully side to side. I ask you to think about the huge range of positions that exist within Zionism before assuming it means any one thing besides believing in Israel has a legitimate right to exist.
punch RMS but don't punch down
here's some things that are bad and harmful and worthy an #uninStallman:
- leveraging positions of power to make unwanted advances on women
- devil-advocating for pedophilia
- prescribing people's pronouns and ethnic terms against their will
- "stealing a kiss is not sexual assault and I refuse to acknowledge this concept"
- being shitty and condescending to people online
- being a lib
here's a list of morally neutral things that even if you personally don't like, do not in themselves cause harm to anyone:
- anything to do with his appearance, age or weight
- having a demeanor or behaviour that feels odd or neurodiv
- being bearded and other unusual sensibilities of personal grooming
- eating toenails in public and other failures to see or understand social protocol
a lot of good, sweet people do things like these and are not shitty. the things on the first list are unrelated to those in the second. mock the second list and you mock a ton of disabled etc. along with him.
by all means go punch RMS, but punch up.
