Pinned toot

After further lurking it looks like are in order so hi, I'm Aylen. I do organic and , w focus on growing native + adapted food + medicine plants. I'm also interested in , , , , and love . Hoping to decrease reliance on centralized social media for my garden logs and read+share cool skills+ideas. Nice to meet everyone, I recognize some of my tumblr friends :)

so far in I've made a bunch of stuffed butternut squash for the squad and saved the seeds for the garden, I got handmade soaps and haircare stuff from indigenous women herbalists instead of buying from a corporation, and shared my hoard of medicinal teas and tinctures with new friends who needed them... haven't done much of my plans so far but hoping to get some more collective actions done this weekend.

We got so much rain there are mushrooms growing in the garden 🍄🌱🌧️

blokétu čháŋna gnugnúška kiŋ ótapi... owóžu mitȟáwa kiŋ waštélakapi 😔

Oh, also some sweet potatoes.. thought tusky ate those.

A few of our grasshopperpocalypse survivors for the updates. A little pumpkin seedling, Malabar spinach, and some moss roses to attract the poor confused pollinators since the porch plants aren't flowering 🌱🌸 :_earth: :_gaysparkle:

We thought this parsley was dead but it's back to try and murder our thyme 😆😔 problems

local politics, hate against homeless ppl

also we have these assholes who are trying to petition to force a vote to criminalize existing while homeless within the city again! (right now camping is allowed, anarchists are working hard to supply food, water, and sanitizer, and the rich people Hate It). I've at least successfully repelled them from one place due to making a scene and complaining to staff, but they are still at it every day. Can I just buy some vegetables or mail a package without having to deal with these scumbags?

most of the summer squash got devoured by crickets before they could even flower but the pumpkin seedlings are still doing well.. keeping them far away from the scene of cricket crimes until they're bigger.

It is a good thing I have so many extra plants because the crickets are absolutely devouring my tiny seedling children 🤬😤

We finally built a big raised bed for a bunch of our baby plants. :_earth: I'll post a photo tomorrow as well as my Monstera which now gets an emoji :monstera:

As far as the absolute demonic behavior of APD this weekend :acab: :acabgraffiti: the protest we were headed to got canceled by the organizers (due to what I think is the same group of bizarre tankies who love to cause problems around here) so that sucked but we'll go out for the next one :anarchism:

Today someone besides me was the one to bring up unionizing in the break room so that was pretty cool

So if anyone was curious about how many things I’ve managed to grow on my windowsill, the answer is lots.

In today's news I murdered a few of my seedlings but at least my Monstera is recovering fast from being neglected under the porch for too long.

It's a good thing our growing season is so long because snails are already attacking the first wave of my seed army. it's already April but I'm gonna start the second wave anyway :_earth: and try to repel the snails who climbed all the way onto a card table to crunch my seedlings 🚫🐌🚫

“Do not be daunted by the enormity of the world’s grief. Do justly, now. Love mercy, now. Walk humbly now. You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free to abandon it.” - Rabbi Tarfon

Leggy but coming up! 🌱 :_earth: 🌱🌿 I'll move them into a better light once this lovely rain forsakes us

“We need acts of restoration, not only for polluted waters and degraded lands, but also for our relationship to the world. We need to restore honor to the way we live, so that when we walk through the world we don’t have to avert our eyes with shame, so that we can hold our heads up high and receive the respectful acknowledgment of the rest of the earth’s beings.”
