This robot cares for the plant on its head by moving in and out of the sun, and stomping around when it needs water: theverge.com/2018/7/12/1756368

This society learns us the fact that failing is *bad* and a shame.
Let me tell you: it is *not*.

Be proud of failing.
You tried something, and even if you did not succeed at your task, you learned something: this way does not work, for this reason.

That's like… The 101 of learning.

Making people ashamed of failing is a really fucked up thing to do.

Plant plans:
Want try my hand at sprouting some seeds now that it's spring
Maybe do some 'will it grow' experiments with some seeds out of store produce

Ooh I wonder if I could get cherry tomatoes to grow? That'd be a treat :D

Climate Change, Canadian Political, Brain Feels

Talked with my spouse for a while and I feel a little better.
Less worried about politics but still worried for the globe.
They reminded me that summer happens between now and the Canadian election-- and that this summer global warming is going to be dominating the headlines again.

Which, is scary, but also gives me a weird hope.
The Cons and TPP both have main talking points about wanting to build oil pipelines. A thing which is monumentally unpopular with most of the population, that it might sink them.
(Please universe, sink them faster.)

Last year so much of Canada was on fire.
(I kind of feel like it might be a good idea to even preemptively try to see if any local groups might be willing to fundraise getting smoke-masks to hand out free to kids. I'm worried it'll be bad this year.)

But whatever the case, it will influence our political conversation. It did last time and that was before us having massive fires every summer.

Canadian Political, Real and Hypothetical messes

Like, I desperately don't want to live under overt racist fascists who will burn ALL the oil AND chop huge chunks of our trees, our very needed very relevant to Earth-is-human-habitat-still, trees.

Canada is the second largest country in the world by landmass and that's a LOT of grassland and forests.

Am not thrilled with any option. The Greens aren't nearly green enough for me. Every current option we have still relies on a top down system that is feeding human misery and disempowerment.

But I can see just over the horizon how it could get better, or much worse.
Ford in Ontario is an ill portent of just how fucking conservative the anglophone voting block is in our biggest province.
It makes me feel sick.
And, if the Cons and TPP get into power then it will be worse.

Worse for the whole globe.
Worried worried worried. :\

Canadian Political, Real and Hypothetical messes

Everything is in the air, & our election is this year on October 21, 2019

Trudeau has to step down because of SNC-Lavalin, the Lib party is corpy, but *if* they put Jody Wilson-Raybould as runner for PM they become a wild card.
Quebec is a big voting block, if they vote NDP we could break from the 2 super-corporate parties & have a chance at doing something (anything) to slow climate change.
But Libs broke the law *for* Quebec's benefit, and if they vote libs NDP likely won't get into power.
Greens might get enough to form a coalition with NDP? *Hopeful*

Our climate can't afford for Canadians to veer conservative again.
This much landmass, with the risk from the oil sands.
Fuck, and the new rather overly fascist and racist "People's Party" too.
It could peel votes off the Conservatives, but what if they do a coalition instead? For Ultra Fascist conservative rule?
Fuckity fuck.

This could go good or Really fucking bad. I'm worried.

So plants use photosynthesis to take in carbon dioxide and give out oxygen, but it doesn't directly convert the two.

That oxygen actually comes from water, and because Earth is a closed system, a lot of water molecules have been water molecules for a long, long time until a plant picks them up. A lot of them are drunk by animals in the meantime.

Dinosaurs were on Earth for 179 million years. So it's very likely that some of the oxygen atoms you're breathing right now were once dinosaur pee.

The Gender Census 2019 is now open until 25th March!

smartsurvey.co.uk/s/gendercens

It's for anyone whose genders (or lack thereof) aren't described by the M/F binary. It's short and easy, and the results are useful in academia, business, and self-advocacy.

Been thinking about drawing out a visual line map of all the ways that capitalism interacts with people's lives.
Likely won't be complete or perfect, but I kind of want a visual for all the places it could be replaced or removed.

hot take/ poli/ "left unity" lolll

@piponfishing
I am also autistic, certainly I understand - Please take your time (although I ask that you allow me time as well, sometimes I am very slow at finding words)

Attempt at clarifying as there has clearly been a profound misunderstanding:
I read your post as /asserting/ that there is a set of rules that can be applied to speech and is not modular.

I was specifically advocating /against/ that, advocating that there should be multiple ways of approaching speech because I believe it is something and that some should be specific to individual cases.

have you ever noticed that someone post a screenshot of text without providing an image description, preventing you from being able to read it? or maybe they posted a huge amount of text that just can't possibly be described with the image description feature?

simply tag @OCRbot in a direct reply to the image. it will download the image and scan it using tesseract OCR to output the text contained in the image!

because OCRbot runs on fedi.lynnesbian.space, it has a character limit of 65535, so even the longest images should work OK!

check the reply to this image to see it parsing the attached screenshot!

Remember. Western society tries hard to make us cold and ruthless. An act of kindness is an act of rebellion.

Go. Rebel.

Does anyone here have questions about running or playing Dungeons and Dragons, and/or a desire to listen to a podcast on the subject? I'll set up an official email later, but for now DM (direct message rather than Dungeon Master) me your questions, be they game related or me related, and I'll do my best to answer them in the first episode, as time allows.

Don't live each day as if it were your last - live each day as curious and excited as if it were your first.

Me: It's winter, we need more sun, I should go to bed early.
Later me: *Has a bought of nightmares and wakes up at 1am, unable to sleep til sunrise*
The next day doesn't see the sun at all, now on full out vampire schedule.

Thanks brain, that was literally the opposite of what I wanted.

Gender impacts aspects of my life it seems like it shouldn't.

Decluttering & I find stuff I set aside for give away 'cause not-my-style. Yet now it resonates again?
What does gender have to do with kitchenware or wall art?
Well, apparently my aesthetic tastes change with my sense of self
& since my gender is in constant flux...
It's inconvenient. I'd rather my gender be static & easy to ignore. But this is my reality & I've got to deal with it.

(Clothes are the worst for shifting tastes btw)

what's a witch's favorite school subject?

spelling!
