There's an open-source youtube client on F-Droid called SkyTube, which not only lets you watch videos without google's proprietary software on your phone, but can subscribe to channels, create playlists, and block recommendations without using a google account - or any kind of login at all. It's all stored on your device, keeping you anonymous - which is rad as hell. PLUS it blocks ads!
You can import your subscriptions from your youtube account too. If you watch a lot of vids on your phone I definitely recommend this
Another thing I've learned since switching to Lineage: Orbot is absurdly easy to use. Even more so than Tor on desktop I think. You just install it, tell it to run on all your apps, and if you have a problem you can click "new identity" or, worst case, turn it off for that app. There's literally no reason why everyone shouldn't be using it
@socalledunitedstates
I like SkyTube a lot, although I mostly use NewPipe as honestly one of my favourite apps on F-Droid.
@socalledunitedstates just downloaded it looks awesome thanks!
@socalledunitedstates newpipe is similar and has beta support for soundcloud in the same app
@socalledunitedstates any thoughts on newpipe (other FOSS YouTube and other media player) vs skytube. I like how newpipe can play music on background and also has popup overlay player.
@nindwen @chillgamesh I didn't see newpipe, I just tried the first one F-Droid recommended and was surprised by the cool features. Skytube can play music in the background too
Does Newpipe let you keep a subscriber list without an account?
@socalledunitedstates @nindwen yeah and you can export/import subscribers from an existing account too
