@mareklach @sean I have to say that medium always felt off to me, like reinventing the wheel. I wonder if discovery is an issue or if we're lazy? Perhaps the web is bigger than it once was. However, maybe discovery of blogs was also more effective when search engines were not popularity contests?
At the same time, the idea of write.as or plume communities built on subjects or similar themes like masto might be interesting.
@sikkdays @sean I guess, you're right: advertisments that masquarade as articles and popularity contests really are what skewed content discovery.
Medium is essentially a Blogger 2.0 from the original creator of Blogger, although Medium, like Tumblr had that built-in topic discovery mechanism based on hashtags and a unified, minimalist interface (this I like, because blog design isn't the focus)
I've also appreciated Medium's good typography: easily readable fonts and generous line spacing).
