Cool, that makes sense. Personally I'd make it a different form factor than the compute modules if only to avoid confusion :)
I'm not sure but I would think that you could make that modular with the right considerations. I'm not an IEEE but it seems like I've seen similar things interfaced in a modular way with the right isolation/etc.
It's a bummer that there's not a standard SODIMM compute module I'm designing some myself and it would be nice if they were universal.
