Right, don't get me wrong, I don't *regret* Linux, I just think it's time for something new.

We're running a mainframe operating system on our phones, it's kind of nuts.

@jjg @kelbot @haitch @vertigo Actually we're running a (bastardized, IMO) clone of a minicomputer operating system (Unix was first developed on a PDP-7) on our phones. Still nuts, but not as much as running a mainframe OS like, for example, z/OS.

@jjg @kelbot @haitch @vertigo I used to work for IBM. They take the difference *very* seriously. And according to wikipedia the modern term for a minicomputer is a "midrange computer," of which IBM's POWER computers are an example.

BTW, the "bastardized" of my last toot refers to Android, not Linux. Linux is actually a pretty faithful recreation of a System 5 release 4 Unix, or at least it was until Poettering & his ilk got a hold of it (but that's a different debate).
