Many leftists (anarchists, socialists, communists) place a lot of value on direct, personal participation in the political process.
I think that is wrong. Not everybody can handle real-time interactions the same (think ableism) and I have no reason to believe that a sharp and quick wit is the best way to conduct emancipatory politics.
The "direct" in "direct democracy" does not have to mean "immediate and personal".
@acharnes
Hecking THANK YOU
my autistic butt has been thinking this for a while but any way i phrased it always sounded to me like "making excuses"
@certifiedperson I'm sorry the ableist culture thinks of your self-expression as making excuses. Let's crush it! :)
@acharnes
Thank you, we absolutely should!
Thanks very much for the post..being an aspie, I understand how difficult it is..
@certifiedperson @acharnes Everyone has different skills, abilities, personalities, etc. Everyone has ways of helping. Anyone or any group who does not value what you have to contribute is, frankly, not worth your time.
@planty
I mean at this point i haven't contributed a lot besides learning differently how to best help people whole also helping myself, which is very indirect. This year's gonna be super busy but next year when i move i hope to join a couple of orgs!
No group in particular caused me to feel this, it's more a subtle thing in the background of most of the leftist media I've engaged with.
Thanks for your support, it's much appreciated
