Depression talk + Show more
I have a new phrase, I want to share it with you. This phrase, much like any coping mechanism, can be easily misused.
It's "that says nothing about -you-" in response to someone doing/not doing a small basic tasks.
For example, I discovered this phrase when Roommate was beating herself up for not taking a shower. When I said "You taking a shower or not says nothing about you as a person." she seemed relieved, and then ended up taking the shower.
Partner and I were maybe gettin into sexy times, but they stopped, and asked if it was okay if they didn't.
Depression makes you place heavy value judgements on the smallest parts of yourself. But a lot of stuff you do regularly because "you should" is totally optional, to at least some degree. And reframing it not as a "reflection" of the self but just "possible" to you as a concept seems to free you of some of that weight.
