Hey if anyone likes community radio stations

I'm building a little app for listening to them in the browser. Kind of like a car radio dial but for the world.

or on dat

nothing fancy but there's 500ish radio stations there most of them work

source here

PRs to this file if you want to add stations
or edit your local dat version directly

I know the search box is broken before anybody @s me about it

@scottishwobbly thanks! mainly have done this out of annoyance. There's no good place to listen to good radio.
never works
is almost there but doesn't have enough stations

and I think they're both abandoned. Because there's no money in community radio. It's by nature anticapitalist

@bamfic @scottishwobbly
Yep I know that one but it's not easy to use it's more of an art piece. And not all of the radios are non-commercial community stations

@lesbianhacker dat:// is a protocol for a distributed p2p web. Currently requires beaker browser

@tulsi Oh! I think I found the official page, it sounds really interesting! #P2P technologies are cool

@lesbianhacker yep that's it! It is very cool. I'm just getting started with it. I wish other browsers than beaker would support it.

@tulsi I can understand why they might not, since it seems that dat is really new! Has it been vetted by, or is it in the process of being vetted by some org like the #IETF?

It does seem really cool and I will definitely be researching it further. So many new distributed and #P2P technologies recently

@lesbianhacker Oh of course I understand it too. It's been around for a couple years. No vetting as far as I know of.

@tulsi replying so I remember to add my uni station, love me some

@Jane lovely I'll add that for you. It's the first station from across the pond! Currently only have north American stations

@Jane this is added now. it takes a while to load for me (probably cause I'm in the US). Search for freshair in the box

Very nice! Please consider adding KGNU (Boulder and Denver, CO), probably my easiest go-to while driving.

@tulsi hi tulsi! I'm volunteering (like 200+ volunteers in this radio) in a french non profit local radio station. I'd like to know what exactly is a community radio ? It could be a webradio or "hertzian" radio but with non commercial purposes.

Also, if my radio station (called "Prun" based in Nantes, FR) fit to the definition of community radio, how could I add it on the map ? And add others that I know ?

This is a great idea, thank you so much to create and share it !
