Something that I like about smol computing projects like Gemini and uxn is that they prevent "Implementation Monopolies", which I'm defining as a widely used computer program that is so complex that alternatives are infeasible to develop.
Web browsers are the biggest ones I can think of, but there are others (e.g. many programming IDEs).
