I had thought that saplings would be best, but I think I was wrong for two reasons:
1. Saplings, once bent, seem to tend to retain that now-bent shape. There is more ductility than elasticity.
2. Saplings perhaps have less dense/strong fibres? This is my hypothesis, since it would explain why the more mature tree limbs seem to be able to sustain greater stress forces.
