actually, though, i am looking for any suggestions or ideas that might help make the fediverse pleasant or otherwise easier to navigate

i'm working on a new project, basically an activitypub server that is mastodon compatible but quite a bit more lightweight by design (though probably not having things like a media server built-in).

i've completed large projects several times in the past, so this isn't a pie-in-the-sky project.

however, i do need info so what i'm making is actually Good

Pops has moved instances!!!

@scarly Don't know if these are what you're looking for but:

"Pronouns" box on all profiles by default
"Would you like to caption this image?" prompt when someone tries to post an image with no caption
"Your post contains ____, would you like to add a content warning?" for unCWd posts containing certain words (such as slurs)
Option for admins to disable public follower counts

@socalledunitedstates this is clever as hell and i like every single one of these suggestions. awesome! thank you!

@socalledunitedstates @scarly I just hope you'll also think about people with valid reasons to not input their pronouns when adding a feature specifically for them

and by that I mostly mean that people who won't say their pronouns won't have to feel bad about it or feel like they stick out

the current system handles that by making it normal to not have your pronouns stated

@behold3r @socalledunitedstates this makes sense to me as well

(after all, i am enby)

just having it as an option but one that's suggested to people in a way that can be easily ignored if wanted/needed seems ok tho

@behold3r @scarly Yep, all rules have exceptions, which is why all my suggestions included the ability to opt out. I'm cis so I won't weigh in on the right balance of suggested vs. expected, but finding that balance is definitely important
