cops and fascism
all these stories of cops playing the aggrieved victim of anti-cop sentiment from Starbucks or McD's workers is a gross reminder of how fascist-minded the police really are.
This is the old-style European fascism. The group that has a license to murder plays the victim — "we are hated everywhere, by everyone. I can't even get a coffee without being called a pig" — so therefore anything they do to you next is already justified.
I've been building a Facebook Events style event organizing system for the Fediverse. It's based on the simple, open source, privacy-respecting event organizing tool https://gath.io
The attached video is a work-in-progress preview and shows compatibility with Mastodon. My hope is to get it working with lots of software, including stuff like Friendica that supports events and calendars.

I just made an html index page for the Yiddish songs project. It's at https://liderbukh.jews.international/
Right now it's just a bunch of links to the pdfs, and ugly as sin. I need to go to bed
Why do I spend so much time creating free high quality printable materials of old Yiddish texts and music, using open source tools?
Because I think that such materials and tools must be available to everyone—not just those privileged with academic access—if we want to bridge the chasm created between us and our ancestors by the Holocaust and the era of assimilation, and effect a Yiddish cultural revival in our Diaspora.

By the way, I'm happy to find local activist/leftist groups for you if you DM me your general area (county, closest city, etc). I've been doing this for a while so I know generally what to look for, though I'm not as familiar with the organizations outside of the so-called US, and the language barrier will make it tougher in countries where English isn't the primary language. But I still try and rarely ever come up with absolutely nothing
Please boost this! Getting organized at the local level is very very important!!!
A toot's got me wondering about the nature of consent in a specific way; I won't ever have an Alexa or anything like it, and maybe you won't either; but other people will.
And now I'm thinking, if you have one of these lumps of spyware in your home, should you be *required* to offer a formal warning to any visitors? I think so; you're required to place CCTV warnings if you run CCTV, and if anything systems like Alexa are more invasive, not less.
The data from a CCTV system might never leave the premises; the data from these "assistants" goes **directly** to servers outside either your *or* your host's control, where your voice may be datamined for any damned purpose the server owners choose.
Don't feel bad about saying "I don't wanna come over, you've got an Alexa running." It's not paranoia to be creeped out by AIs (or persons) unknown listening to your private conversations. It's *normal*. You don't *need* anything to "hide" for you desire not to *share* to be valid.

If you prefer to focus on other ways of being politically active that is great! Voting just takes a few minutes, leaving lots of time to engage in protest and direct action. Most of my political engagement is not through electoral politics, but I still vote and encourage others to vote because the people who want to hurt my friends, family, and neighbors don't want me to.

“If voting changed anything they would make it illegal.”
All of these are from news stories published within the last month (as of December 29, 2019):
-The state of Georgia canceled the voter registration status of 100,000 predominantly black and low-income citizens to suppress turnout.
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/12/27/us/elections/georgia-voters-purge.html
-Wisconsin tried to purge over 200,000 Democratic-leaning voters from the rolls.
-Texas falsely claimed that over 100,000 voters (almost exclusively people of color) were not real U.S. citizens and tried to prevent them from voting. The state also sent Crystal Mason to prison for unknowingly voting illegally while on supervised release.
- Lanisha Bratcher of North Carolina is facing 19 months in prison for voting in the 2016 election after being released from prison. The law she is being charged under was instituted under Jim Crow to disenfranchise black people.

Does anyone have any good theory recs/articles that tackle the commodification of queer identity through an anti-capitalist lens? Right now I'm thinking about queer gatekeeping and the times I've felt my style/clothing didn't adequately "communicate my identity." Would also read about corporate normalization of queer experience (retail giants selling queer merch, queer advertising, etc).
Bonus points for fiery and cynical prose.
My hobbies include making art, reading (especially about politics and history), and using my cane to cripple white supremacy.
