anyway, after that I resolved to never be shamed into a vote again.
I'm super involved locally. I've been on my neighborhood association. I ran an armed militant trans community defense group for a year. I'm friends with someone running for city council. I help run mutual aid warming shelter for those in need in our neighborhood. And I also helped get about a dozen people registered to vote this year who asked for help.
so miss me with your shame.

hey fellow non voters
if you don't trust the system will work,
if you didn't have time to research the issues,
if you feel paralyzed or overwhelmed,
if you anything at all that makes the process of voting not so simple for you:
you're not a bad person, despite shaming tactics you may have encountered.
and you're not alone.

and it's not because I'm not engaged or not paying attention. It's the opposite. It was because I knew his record. It was because I felt that I had just endorsed every single bomb that asshole might drop in the future and the blood was on my hands.
I think the only reason I survived was that he lost.

i've been debating saying this 'cause it's going to make people mad, but whatever your shame filled 'go vote' posts are going to get someone killed so...
I will never vote in federal elections. I vote in local elections (I already did), but I write in "NOBODY" 100% of the time for federal positions.
Last time I voted federally was when I was shamed into voting for John Kerry and I almost killed myself afterwards because I felt so guilty.
SO FUCKING STOP IT WITH YOUR SHAMING!

not saying anything for or against voting. but, it's always deeply discouraging to me that this level of energy is rarely sustained let alone applied at pressure points in ways that would bring more effective change

this is the day where the politically apathetic get to pretend they care about political change by patronizing people to do a meaningless gesture, badly, at the last minute.
if you want people to affect change that way, the time to advocate for that was months ago, but here we are. you also won't get very far with that without an actual political strategy, but who needs organizing when you can rely on a token gesture of symbolic appreciation.
voting would be so much more fun if instead of electing shitty politicians to office, we'd elect them to the guillotine
