The Indian Ocean Territory (.io) was created when the Chagos Archipelago was illegally split off from Mauritius during the fall of the British Empire.
Shortly after, the 3000 islanders who had been there for generations were forcibly evicted and deported to Seychelles, Mauritius and the UK. Their pets were killed and their belongings destroyed. This was all done to make way for a US military base, from which they bomb South Asia.
The islanders have been prevented from returning ever since. Using .io domain names directly supports ongoing colonialism.
@cocoron what's the status on writefreely implementation for the instance?
These pictures of Jupiter taken by the Juno spacecraft are fucking with my emotions; I remember avidly staring at grainy black and white photos of the planets when I was very little. Absolutely breathtaking #astronomy
Here's a website I highly recommend: https://www.filfre.net. It has a ton of articles on the history and design of adventure games. The recommended reading order is by order of publication, since it goes chronologically, and the articles are also available in ebook format in volumes for a more concentrated reading.

Hey if anyone likes community radio stations
I'm building a little app for listening to them in the browser. Kind of like a car radio dial but for the world.
or on dat

"Abandoned coal mines across the UK could be brought back to life as huge underground farms, according to academics.
"Advocates say subterranean farms could yield up to ten times as much as farms above ground.
"It could also breathe new life into many mines that have been closed since the decline of the UK coal industry in the late 1980s and offer a cheaper alternative to vertical farming in giant greenhouses."

The only thing ao3 has ever actually contributed is legal copyright protections for fanwork, and while that's great it's pretty spoiled by everything else.
