I've realized, after perusing other people's profiles, that I never properly introduced myself. So, here's my #introduction.
I'm Josh, and I'm a generalist. I have some skills in math and programming, I love philosophy, I'm trying to learn Japanese, and I have a degree in music. I'm interested in the Effective Altruism movement and am trying to find work there right now. Also, I've written a book of poems that are mostly geared towards kids. You can find me at https://ameyama.com!

can’t believe it’s been like a month since i’ve been primarily spending time on this surveillance-free, bigot-free (or at least, unfederated) social network and nothing has really gone wrong 🤔 almost like we didn’t need to trade away all our privacy to have a good experience on line??
@jrc03c Thanks to SBC for hosting me all this time!
This was on the front page of The Guardian today: "From freecycling to Fairphones: 24 ways to lead an anti-capitalist life in a capitalist world" https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2018/dec/10/from-freecycling-to-fairphones-24-ways-to-lead-an-anti-capitalist-life-in-a-capitalist-world

I trained a neural network on 1,228 types of cookies and apparently these are what cookies sound like to it.
An average car emits 650g of CO₂ per km driven. An average person travels 25km to get to work each day. Commuting by car emits an average of 32.5kg of CO₂ daily. (Based on data from the US.)
An adult tree absorbs up to 21.8kg of CO₂ per year. It would take one tree 1.5 years to absorb what one person can emit in a single day.
In the US alone, over 6 million more cars are registered annually. Each year we destroy 18.7 million acres of forest worldwide, killing roughly 1.1 billion trees.
Been digging through She-Ra fan art today. Loved these two by https://www.deviantart.com/yuri-murasaki
Um, I can only scroll back through two days worth of toots. Is that a bug? Or is the history of the instance limited for storage space reasons? Or did I only start existing two days ago but was implanted with false memories of having lived for 33 years? If it's the last case, then the creators of this simulation did a bad job. If I can notice that toots only go back two days, then the illusion of having lived for a long time is broken. 🤔
