However it might help others to know what cpu (Intel, AMD?) and what graphic card and driver? oh, and what distribution

Switching to X and disabling the Qt window frame for Telegram seems to have fixed it. I'll try Wayland again at some point since it seems like maybe Telegram was the culprit here after all?
@hazelnot glad to hear it may be cleared up, and sorry as I was replying I missed that you had said it was Arch.
btw I've noticed that sometimes tags can help get your post more widely seen.
and I think that was the first time I've seen that emoji (I can't find it although it must be somewhere

@hazelnot That you had KDE working in Wayland at all is more than I've been able to accomplish. For me, screen updates only happen on mouse clicks and, then, only the previous contents, not whatever your mouse click did. I'm back using Xorg for the time being.
@StarkRG it's not something I "accomplished" I just installed the Wayland session and selected it from the display manager 
I heard stories about it not working on Nvidia, but I'm on AMD so I thought what the hell, especially since it's been working flawlessly on Gnome for at least a year and probably more
@hazelnot Ahh, that could be the difference. I'd probably try that too if I wasn't on Nvidia. I'm not really sure KDE is quite wayland-ready, and Nvidia definitely isn't.

@hazelnot try alternate video drivers or DEs at least you'll know if it's KDE or Telegram or the driver
@oreolek it happened with Element too so it's not Telegram. It's not driver-related cause I just switched from Gnome to KDE a few days ago
@hazelnot still could be driver if you didn't switch from x to wayland, i had quite a lot of GPU freezes/crashes on wayland (sway)
@oreolek I'm not sure what you mean, why is specifically *not* switching from X to Wayland gonna cause problems o.o
I've been using Wayland on both DEs
@hazelnot sorry i meant if you did. I don't know how to debug video freezes but in my user experience some video drivers are more stable drawing windows than others (radv > amdvlk) and it also depends on the kernel. Had to switch to linux-lts.
