The Good Law Project has four days remaining to reach its £30,000 target to challenge the abominable waiting times for trans healthcare in the UK. If they don't pass £30k, they get nothing. Help make this momentous legal action happen!

@webweaver Yes, it's a menace here but at least this is its home so it belongs here. I feel happier toward it now, though, knowing it can be a friend in many ways (even if it does try to take over the garden and pull down the house.)

@RuttokansanTuote Oh thank you for the suggestion! Unfortunately, I tried them and while they seemed to not mind the light levels, the slugs were too much for them :)

After spending several months getting rid of most of the ivy in the garden, I really hated ivy. But I have to say, the stretch of it I left is now flowering, and the flowers are *swarming* with bees, hoverflies and other pollinators. Plus I've read that the berries are an important source of calories for the birds over the winter.

Not to mention that the leaves are full of saponins and you can make your own washing liquid out of them (my daughter uses ivy leaves to make laundry liquid.)

Basically for me here in the UK, ivy may be a bit of a menace, but it still deserves to be appreciated as a valuable worker in our native ecosystem. I'm glad I kept the patch, but I'm not going to let it take over the whole garden again

Hey did you get your flu shot yet? Maybe between remaining covid precautions and extra vaccinations we can make another flu lineage go extinct this year! I mean, probably not, but worth a shot!

My pharmacy keeps running out of shots, but I’m on the wait list now.

Ugh, bought "Cats in Space and other places" edited by Bill Fawcett on the recommendation of someone on Tumblr, but it's very typical '70s sci-fi with the attendant sexism. I've read two of the stories so far and both of them have been all 'oh, cats are far superior to women.'

I didn't notice the sexism when I was growing up on '70s SF, but once you start noticing, you can't stop

@teslas_moustache Ooh, good luck! I've just heard about grain spawn which you can grow on compost. That would be much easier

@teslas_moustache I'd like to try again, but the difficulty is finding some fresh wood for them. I can't go around lopping branches off the local trees :)

@teslas_moustache I'm not sure, honestly. I bought a load of little dowels which were impregnated with the mycelium, drilled holes in the branches and hammered the dowels into them

@RadiantEmber Yeah, you want to be all 'yes, allo people and aces who enjoy sex should be allowed to do so without shame or hangups, but otoh it would be really nice if all that was to happen while I could keep it out of my face
