Natural cleaners (~) Show more
I recommend researching any 'natural and nontoxic' cleaner recipes that you come across because many that I see are either
-Ineffective because their ingredients quickly react to form an inert substance
-Actually contain toxic substances that should be handled appropriately
-Contain substances that when mixed release harmful gases
- Do not actually clean/sanitize the way they are claimed to
There are definitely cleaners out there that are made with common household substances (diluted vinegar is a better glass cleaner than Windex IMO!) but please, please do your research
weed ecology Show more
Cannabis is just another plant that can become an integral part of a permaculture.
Beans pull nitrogen out of the air to be used by nitrogen-hungry cannabis plants. Calendula is especially appealing to tiny pests who might otherwise be chomping on your cannabis. Stinging nettles add iron, magnesium, calcium and potassium to soil. And Chamomile (perhaps the best cannabis companion) can capture accumulated calcium, sulfur and potassium, which is delivered back to the soil as the plant breaks down.
Industrialized cannabis production, brought on by state legalization, has created vast monocultures that destroy the soil and waste electricity. Growing cannabis among a thriving permaculture is vital to the local ecology.
We are an ecology. Weed are an ecology.
A lot of people who want to learn art give up very quickly, believing they don't have the ability to learn.
Talent is a lie though. It doesn't exist.
Sometimes people will try and not learn as quickly as they think they should. Yet nobody would pick up a violin and expect to learn to play all on their own without anyone or anything to guide them. There are scales and techniques to practice.
For art, this involves re-learning how to see things, so you can form specifics about the shape, rather than just creating a symbol of it in your mind. And this involves developing the coordination for mark making. And how to construct shapes so they look like something.
It's no wonder people get frustrated and give up when they try to figure out the entire history of art on their own.
Use some resources and learn! I promise it's a lot more effective to practice *well* than to just hope that scribbling on paper will make you better.
This stem is a dieffenbachia, and it used to be the same size as the healthy leafy plant in the background.
I left it on my desk on campus over December and I guess they switched off the heating while no one was there. Foolish of me not to plan for that.
This plant lost all its leaves and roots and nearly died. But the stem's still green so it can still photosynthesise, and I'm nursing it back to health. After 6 weeks of warmth and light, it's starting to grow roots again!
A tweet from Amaryah S. Armstrong @amaryah_sa.
“The success of capitalism is due to how much it has convinced people that you have to earn your existence.
I keep seeing people saying dignity is earned and I’m just like, you sound like a terrible parent, partner, person, neighbor, and friend, but also am like, somebody taught you that and treated you that way and that sounds like a shit way to be raised.”
police, chemical weapons, safety Show more
Milk is NOT an effective treatment for tear gas and pepper spray. To treat police chemical weapons you need an unopened water bottle with a sport top and a pair of nitrile gloves.
This is a PSA by your friendly local protest medic. Instructions on how to use this equipment in the thread.
police violence, menstruation, safety Show more
Withholding sanitary products for people who are menstruating is a common way that the police terrorize people in their custody. This means that whatever product you happen to be wearing when you are arrested is likely to be what you are going to be wearing for a very long time.
DO NOT let that product be a tampon. Wearing a tampon for too long is associated with toxic shock syndrome. AVOID wearing tampons to political demonstrations.
Hey fellow tooters, do you know any people around here interested in these topics? I’d love to chat about them, I don’t know who to follow!
- music composition
- electronic music, chiptune
- VJing, live digital performances
- indie video games
- hardware hack (softcore cpus, gpus…)
- programming language design
- operating system design
- drawing, painting
- crafts (woodworking, sewing…)
I probably forgot some of my interests there, but it’s a start!
Boost is appreciated. :3
