You haven't lived until you've seen the scene in 'A King in New York' where an anarchist kid lectures Charlie Chaplin about freedom
A bit too america-centric, but still.. very strong message.
Vive la révolution!
capitalist economic theory: no one gives anything away without asking for something in return, and anything offered for free will be exploited by selfish people trying to profit from it
the anarchist free store in my town: please, come take more of our free stuff, we have too much. we're running out of space from all of these donations and don't know what to do
This one is for my #SolarPunk pals @sunbeam.city 🤟
So in July of 1974, the "old-timey hippie" generation (my parents' generation) was in their mid 20's to mid 30-ish. Those hippies had just barely just convinced the world that it probably wasn't the best idea to go on with the catastrophic pollution crisis which Mother Jones so bluntly captured here: https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2011/12/smog-photos-1970s-america/
They were pioneers of their own right, showing that those toxic chemicals were a poor replacement for the natural energy of the sun, which can be used to meet all of our human needs for energy in one form or another.
From the magazine featured below, they shared a design of a #SolarOven. It's based on the concept of a Fresnel Lens, a sort of "grooved" lens that is specifically designed to concentrate rays into a high-heat situation to cook food or make an oven!
Just goes to show that high-tech does not need to be elite-tech.
Happy Memorial Day to the generation that knew we didn't need GUNS to make peace.
Capitalism Show more
Here's something shitty about capitalism that I feel doesn't get talked about enough: It creates situations where you're just waiting for things to be over. Life is finite. Ideally you should cherish every moment. But a lot of us spend every work day waiting for the day to be over so we can go home. We start looking forward to the month being over because that's when we get paid. We spend most of the week waiting for the weekend. This isn't a good way to spend your life.
Mobilizon, the upcoming open federated alternative to Facebook Events, has reached its first crowdfunding goal of €20k:
This covers development of the events software itself.
The next goal, €35k, adds federation through ActivityPub, which will let people on the Fediverse share and join events. This could be crucial to helping many more people leave Facebook 👍
