With Solarpunk action week 2020 almost here I thought it would be a good time to give a primer on how to make seedbombs.
What's up! I'm picking seams of my old larp cloak in preparation for #solarpunkactionweek, and moaning in despair at the sewing work of 14 yo me 😂 I thought the seams looked horrendous then too, so in essence, nothing has changed in 15 years 🤣
@actionweek 1. Start the seeds for our food garden(s)
Kill the green manure on the front hill, cover it with another hefty layer of compost, then spread wildflower seeds (unfortunately, the steepness, lack of sunlight, and overall terrible soil quality of that hill makes it difficult and not worth it to grow food there - so wildlife habitat it shall be!)
Visit a new community garden that opened up in my city
Have the first in-person meeting for a small affinity group I’m starting, which will include printing zines and posters for each member to distribute around the city and planning more fun events
Build another pallet bench and do absolutely 0 crimes with it, just keep it safely and legally on my property
@actionweek it’s still a bit early for spring planting here, so I am thinking about hosting a mending party? Everyone finds some things that are perfectly good but needs to be hemmed/repaired/etc and we all spend the afternoon fixing them
Alright. I think I'm gonna try and grow some #elderberry and maybe some #ginger. Not totally sure if that works in this climate though. Definitely gonna try some #garlic again. I'll convert at least one of the raised beds into a hinged #hoophouse #greenhouse.
Can't afford health insurance, so I'm gonna grow some fucking medicine I guess.
Still growing #BokChoy in the basement, so I'm getting a little bit of fresh greens in these cold, dark times.
I got two 6-month water filters, and an air filter that I *believe* is rated for 6months.
My buddy @Got_Rent_Strike gave me a couple big bags of pumpkin seeds, which are a great energy source.
#solarpunkactionweek? IDK. Just planning out loud for the coming year I guess. If we get Medicare for All maybe I'll feel a bit less pressure on this, but it's also a bit exciting. I kinda started doing this without realizing there's a pattern.
The first #SolarpunkActionWeek is over, but that doesn't mean you have to stop working for a better world! To keep the momentum going, always remember the 3 O's of successful activism: Organize, Organize, and Organize. Here are some things you can do now:
If you have a boss, you need a labor union. If you have a landlord, you need a tenant's union. And if you have debt, guess what, you need a debtor's union (http://debtcollective.org). #SunbeamWiki has a whole page on how to unionize, as well as a list of groups to contact for help: https://wiki.sunbeam.city/doku.php?id=workers_unions_direct_action
Visit your closest #FoodNotBombs meal. Ask how you can help and what other local groups need help. They'll be happy to have you!
And check out this page for other groups you can join: https://wiki.sunbeam.city/doku.php?id=organisations
See you all in ~6 months!
