People need to learn to see the world as a positive sum game. Anything that benefits one of us, benefits all of us. Anything that disadvantages one of us, disadvantages all of us.
It’s that simple.
At the very least, keep in mind that life is NOT a zero sum game. You can succeed without requiring someone else to fail. You can be right without requiring someone else to be wrong. You can be more without requiring someone else to be less.
Remember that you can lift yourself up without pushing others down.
@InvaderXan DINGDINGDING! YOUAWINNAH! Seriously, though, your average business school student only knows Adam Smith as "the invisible hand guy", but Smith's far more important contribution to economics was criticizing the mercantilist position that transactions necessarily had a winner and a loser; demonstrating that you could trade in ways that benefitted both parties was, at the time, revelatory. Pity that most people's natural intuitions *still* drive them to mercantilist stinginess.
Isn't that an "utilitarian" point of view ?
I tend to use that but it also has its limits sometimes
@Nocta I don't think the sentiment of "helping others ultimately helps everyone" should have limits.
@InvaderXan I agree but I may have misunderstood your original post then sorry ^^"
@Nocta Not to worry
