I genuinely hate that one year in every four, the entire internet turns into Americans relentlessly talking about their banal politics and forcing the other 96% of the world’s population to pay full attention.
And I hate that we have to pay attention because America is the douchebro of the world, whose combination of air pollution, nationalism, warmongering, and wealth hoarding poses a deep existential threat to us all.
I hate that I have a better understanding of the entire US political system than I do for the political structures of 3 of the 4 countries I’ve actually lived in, because Americans literally never shut up about politics.
Literally, the campaigning never stops. The day after the election, people are already starting to fundraise, etc for the next one. There's two bloody elections every year. The ballots are pages long. Angry pensioners vote in every single election, so it's never safe to ignore them.
If this was actually ~politics~ I'd be fine with it, but it's a bunch of horse race bullshit of people getting and spending money that is literally designed to zap the lifeblood out of political movements.
Like so much else in the US, it seems unfixable and is exhausting.
