Some unsolicited advice on growing sprouts! 🌱πŸ₯—πŸ’š

Seeing as a few people asked, this is the method I use. It works pretty well for me so far, but feel free to adapt things however you see fit. Everyone has to find what works for them, after all!

Sprouts are tasty and nutritious and they’re super easy to grow. You just need to take a little care, because the ideal conditions for growing sprouts are also ideal conditions for growing bacteria and mold. But if you know what to look out for, you shouldn’t have any trouble with either of those.

🌱 For your container, use a tray made from glass or clear plastic, with a lid. It’s a good way to reuse food packaging or repurpose old casserole dishes (this tray in the picture probably had dolmades or something in it).
🌱 It’s a good idea to sterilise things first, because both mold and bacteria can ruin your crop. Swab the container with some rubbing alcohol – you can buy this from pharmacies for a couple of euros.
🌱 Careful with plastic containers. They can pick up smells and even bacteria over time. It’s probably best not to re-use them too much. If they start to look a little discoloured, take them to be recycled and use a new one. Glass trays can be used indefinitely.
🌱 You won’t need any substrate, so don’t bother lining your tray with paper towels or anything.

@InvaderXan If you don't mind, you can (and should) also (or instead) use hydrogen peroxide.

Hydrogen peroxide is more likely to be fatal to the bacteria which are likely to be present on the sprouting seeds, and also lightly dissolves the skin around the seed, helping increase the rate of germination.

@emsenn You can. But botanists typically use a 40% ethanol solution to sterilise seed coats for agar plates.

Either will work.
