In the forthcoming general election, LGBT rights, especially trans rights, will be exploited by Tories as a wedge issue to use to split the left. Trans people will be a political football to a greater extent than ever before.
It's gonna be a very rough time for trans people.
The UK media's going to be even more toxic towards us than ever before, driving up public harassment and assaults on trans people past the 200% they've already reached in the last couple of years.

If you're not ready to stick your neck out and stand up publicly for trans people, don't call yourself our ally. We need strong and reliable support in the coming storm. Trans people, protect and check up on your trans friends. Non-trans people, stand up for us and shout down the bigots, but try not to speak over us, and give us space when we need it. Merely refraining from abusing us yourself does not make you an ally.

Those who profess to support trans people often are nowhere to be seen at times like this. My theory is they never were interested in anything except self gratification. If you read that and it upset you because you don't believe it to be true, you already know how to prove me wrong - get out there and defend us publicly.

@FuchsiaShock Now would be an *excellent* time for the Guardian's UK editorialship to *vocally* renounce that infamous "both sides" trans editorial, and finally accept they were grievously wrong, in a way that's contributed to this current spike in queer bigotry generally, and especially anti-trans violence.

(Not that I expect that to happen with any greater rapidity than Obama and marriage equality)
