in this we can see where this 'no gods' comes from and what it has always meant, it means no illegitimate divine other who rules over the individual, it means power and sovereignty of people people against the divinity being used to justify hierarchy. it is not an anti theist take, it's an anti power take. and in this, it becomes a powerful slogan to push back against the structures of power, and continues to be just that.
I understand there are people of faith for whom spirituality is a powerful part of their lives, and I respect that even if that isn't the same for me. that said, faith isn't the same as the institutions of organsed religion that have been used for systemic abuse and the centralisation of power. the subversion of these hierarchies is radical, and not an attack on having faiths . these institutions have, and hurt people, these institutions are not the fact or practice of having faith
